Aure Chemical: Trusted Source of 1,2-Dichloroethylene CAS 540-59-0

1,2-Dichloroethylene (CAS 540-59-0) is the commercial cis/trans isomer mixture of 1,2-dichloroethene, a colorless, highly flammable liquid with a chloroform-like odor. It is used as a low-boiling solvent and as an intermediate for other chlorinated organics, and should not be confused with vinylidene chloride (1,1-dichloroethene, CAS 75-35-4). Aure Chemical supplies 1,2-Dichloroethylene for industrial solvent and synthesis customers who need documented quality and Class 3 transport paperwork.

Key Applications of 1,2-Dichloroethylene

  • Degreasing and precision-cleaning solvent: The mixed isomers, and especially the trans isomer, are used in vapor degreasing and precision cleaning of metals and assembled parts where a low-boiling chlorinated solvent is specified.

  • Solvent for resins, waxes and lacquers: 1,2-Dichloroethylene dissolves waxes, resins, lacquers, thermoplastics, fats and related organics and is used in extraction and formulation work that needs a volatile chlorinated medium.

  • Intermediate for chlorinated organics: It serves as a starting olefin in the preparation of other chlorinated solvents and building blocks, including selected coupling and addition reactions in organic synthesis.

  • Electronics and surface cleaning: Trans-rich grades are used for cleaning electronic components and printed-circuit assemblies where residue control and fast evaporation are required.

  • Specialty process uses: Additional applications include extraction of oils and natural rubber, foam-blowing additive duty, and limited refrigerant or low-temperature solvent service for heat-sensitive materials.

Aure Chemical: Your Reliable Partner for 1,2-Dichloroethylene Supply

  • Defined cis/trans solvent quality: Material is supplied against assay and isomer-mix expectations so cleaning and synthesis users can keep a repeatable evaporation and solvency profile from lot to lot.

  • Flammable-liquid export handling: Shipments are arranged through established UN 1150 channels that accommodate the low flash point and destination packing rules for this Class 3 liquid.

  • SDS and isomer-identification documents: SDS, COA and dangerous-goods paperwork are available, with clear distinction from 1,1-dichloroethene to support incoming QA and regulatory review.

  • Pack size and grade discussion: Support is available on drum versus smaller sealed packs and on whether a mixed-isomer or isomer-enriched grade better fits the intended degreasing or synthesis duty.

Hazards Classification

GHS Classification: Flammable liquid (Category 2, GHS02); Acute toxicity, inhalation (Category 4, GHS07); Hazardous to the aquatic environment, chronic (Category 3). Harmonized CLP labelling for 1,2-dichloroethylene and its isomers follows Index No. 602-026-00-3.

Hazard Statements: H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapor; H332 Harmful if inhaled; H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. The liquid decomposes on heating or in the presence of air, light and moisture, releasing hydrogen chloride.
